This self-portrait was taken at Topanga State Beach, CA and it’s from the “Topanga” series in the typology, ‘Deconstruction’.

This photo was taken early on in the project (did not make a dress yet) and I hadn’t finessed how the remote worked for my camera.

However, I loved the imperfect, out of focus images… and thought it was appropriate as I am photo journaling a process of self-inquisition, which comes from feeling

‘out of focus’ some times.I wish I knew earlier in life that perfection is over-rated, let alone unobtainable.

There’s a kind of peace that comes with allowing oneself to draw outside the lines after spending so much time and energy trying not to.

To even like the designs outside the lines.

All the cliches like “make lemonade out of lemons” came about because someone figured out that it was possible and preferable to see things that way then to dwell in the negative.

I never did do another series for this project out of focus…maybe I will again in the future. I think I’ll revisit that sometime.
