A human being is a being who is constantly ‘under construction,’ but also, in a parallel fashion, always in a state of constant destruction.
Jose Saramago

As a photographer, I am conditioned to look out and take photographs that speak to me. At a time in my life, I turned the lens on myself as I indulged in introspection and internal contemplation, erasing all that I have known until now, to study who I am without any identity.

Deconstruction is a self-portrait typology presenting a narrative about the stripping away of old beliefs and identifiers and the reconstruction of a belief system that opens the door to living a fulfilled life.

The deeper I get into this series the more I understand that, in some way, I have very little to do with it. The ideas have shown up at all hours of the day and night and when I took their cue, I was fortunate enough to move forward in the collaboration.

In color psychology white is the color of new beginnings, of wiping the slate clean.  It is a blank canvas waiting to be written upon.  One of the basic features of the color white is neutrality, which contributed to the reasons I chose to take self-portraits wearing a white dress.

Deconstruction is an exploration of self as well as an invitation for interpretation.

We must be willing to let go of the life we planned so as to have the life that is waiting for us.   Joseph Campbell
