This self-portrait was chosen to be in the Virtual Reality Exhibition online at @wabgnet. I am so deeply honored to be 1 of 20 women chosen, globally, to participate in this exhibit. I am particularly happy about this because this image is from a photojournalistic project that I am still working on. I started it in 2011. This project is an exploration, where I turned my camera onto myself and asked the question, “who am I without everything that I do?” I hope to create another monograph someday… for now, I still feel like I am in the researching stages as my life unfolds and I learn more about the process of deconstruction, which in my experience entails some destruction before it leads to reconstruction, which could very well be the stage I am in now… or at least, getting there. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Collaboration, 19x27, acrylic, resin, aluminum. I picked up my artwork this weekend from the gallery and brought it home. I had some pieces that I felt that I no longer was connected to and I’ve selected a few to paint over. This piece was a resin piece that I painted over and I left some of the resin underneath there to come through. It was a collaboration of mediums.

Aftermath is the name of this new collection of wo

Aftermath is the name of this new collection of work I have been creating. I love working with the texture of the paint. Like resin, working in this medium is definitely a collaboration since the paint creates its own design when mixed and sculpted. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I started out with smaller pieces and now I am working on larger works. Very soon they will all be up on my website under projects, “Aftermath,” So please feel free to check out what is there now…they are for sale and I’m excited for them to find their collectors and embellish their spaces. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Like all of us, I am evolving, and as I do, so does my work. I’m taking more chances, being more willing to make mistakes and course correct. While there is a depth to this work, it is coming from a place of lightness… one that comes after delving into the darker parts of ourselves. I hope you see the light in them too!
